Guest Post Guidelines

I welcome guest post submissions. To address the typical questions I have prepared this guide. Feel free to contact me for more information or clarification on any point.

WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT?
My blog is on entrepreneurial leadership, productivity, and personal development. Posts should touch on, or tie back to, one or more of those areas.

DO YOU PAY FOR GUEST POSTS?
No.

WHAT ABOUT THE STYLE, PHOTOS, LENGTH, AND EDITING?
Focus on the writing. I will adjust / edit formatting to ensure style parity with my writing. That said, feel free to include sub-headings, italic, and bold text if you wish. I will source a suitable image for the post. Most posts that I write are 500 to 1,200 words. I recommend a minimum of 400 words, and, while there is no upper limit, longer posts are more often not read to the end. I reserve the right to edit the guest post. I will not rewrite the post, but I may make grammar edits, title changes, minor wording changes, etc.

WHO OWNS THE POST ONCE SUBMITTED?
In submitting a guest post I assume the post is original content written exclusively for my blog and I become the owner and copyright owner on posting. In submitting you give me your consent to republish the work in any way, form, or media without compensation or additional permission. If the content is ever republished I will always prominently credit you.

CAN YOU REPUBLISH OR USE THE POST AFTER I PUBLISH IT?
I ask that you get my permission if you wish to use the exact post on another blog, newsletter or other means of publication digitally or in print. My permission will not unreasonably be withheld. I ask this to ensure that any repost includes 1) a link back to my blog, and 2) notes that the article first appeared on my blog. I will never take credit for writing the guest post. This in no way limits you to never writing on this subject elsewhere, but that other writing on the same subject should be new original phrasing and content.

CAN I PUT LINKS TO OTHER BLOGS OR WEBSITES IN MY GUEST POST?
I allow links embedded or in a ‘notes’ section at the end of a post as long as they point to relevant content to the blog post you have written. I do not allow self-links in the post. These can be included in the your short writer bio / byline.

HOW CAN READERS LEARN MORE ABOUT ME?
I encourage you to submit a writer bio or byline to assist in prompting you, your blog / website, or your business. This should be a short (50-100 word) couple of sentences. Its not intended to be a resume or an ad. I do allow a link to your business blog or website. No affiliate links may be included in a bio / byline section.

WHEN WILL MY SUBMISSION BE PUBLISHED?
I reserve the right to publish, or not. I reserve the right to publish the post if accepted at a time that is most appropriate for the blog and post. This may not be right after submission. I am under no obligation to publish the guest post. It is unreasonable for me to hold your work from publication so I will return it and release all copyright if I do nothing with it within 90 days of submission.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GUEST POST IS PUBLISHED?
I will either 1) make you a co-moderator on comments, 2) encourage you to set up a Disqus comment system profile and reply to comments as a standard user, or 3) forward comments to you for response and reply on your behalf or with you input to my reply. I want to encourage community and conversation and comments are a great way to do this.

HOW DOES THE WORD GET OUT ABOUT MY AWESOME POST?
After the post is published it is pushed out to the anxiously waiting world via RSS feeds, MailChimp subscriber lists, and my personal FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. I encourage you to link the post in your own social media spaces.

Please note: I moderate comments and reserve the right to delete or edit those that are offensive or off-topic.
